History The castle was first mentioned in the Liber Censum of the Apostolic See, compiled in the 1320s and now preserved in the Vatican Secret Archives. Throughout its history, the castle was a Guelph garrison and used to contain the Ghibelline Assisi. Its fate would later see it pass into the hands of Umbrian mayor families from the 14th to the early 20th century.
