Discover the best questions to ask a wedding photographer. As a wedding photographer based in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire I know you might find it tricky. I’m here to help... The best questions to ask a wedding photographer Whether you choose me or someone else I just want to make sure you’re happy with your wedding photographer. So, this page gives you the inside scoop on the clever questions to ask wedding photographers and also highlights some of the things that make me stand out from the crowd. How long have you been a photographer? This is an obvious one and will tell you if the photographer is just starting out. I started my photography business in 2008 and started photographing weddings in 2013. Have you won any awards or other accolades? In the Hitched awards I was voted one of the 10 best Breakthrough wedding photographers in the UK. Do you have any reviews and testimonials? I have over 100 Google reviews and they’re all 5-Star ratings. It’s also good to read the reviews because it will help you understand exactly why the photographer was great, because different couples want different things from their photographer. How long will it take to receive our wedding photographs? I limit my number of weddings and then fill the gaps with family photography so I don't get overbooked and enssure I have time to edit your photographs. This means I can guarantee you’ll receive your photographs within 1 month. I also do a sneak peek on social media within 24-72 hours. Do you have any kind of guarantee? Personally, I have a money-back guarantee if you’re not happy for any reason. This is incredibly rare in the wedding industry so the answer with most photographers will be no. The key when asking this question is to listen to how the say no. Does the question seem to irritate them or do they start babbling? This might tell you a lot about how the photographer will be on the wedding day. Saying no is fine so long as they say it in a nice way. How big are your wedding albums? My wedding albums are 70 pages and 14x11 inches and comfortably fit 250 photographs. Most wedding albums are around half the size and half the number of pages. How many photographs will we get? For a full wedding day I’m usually supplying between 500-800 photographs. How would you describe your photographic style and approach on the wedding day? My goal is to create ‘photos with feeling’. This means I always want you to feel some kind of emotion when you look at the photograph because it’s so full of life. 80% of the day I’m hiding in the shadows capturing moments and 20% of the day I’m joining in the banter and instigating fun photographs as if I’m a second best man. I will also be hitting the dance floor hard to get those fun party shots while I strut my stuff! I also bring a bottle of Prosecco for you to spray around Formula 1 style. I also have a microphone to help me round up guests for the group photos in a nice tone of voice. I sometimes get one of the children to shout into it too to help me gather people in a fun way. What sort of weddings do you like most? For me weddings are all about the people. I love photographing weddings where the people are full of life, love and laughter and don’t take things too seriously. For example… …If it rains then let’s dance in the rain …If there’s a power cut then let’s hold candles and sing songs …If you trip over then let’s all giggle together and help you to your feet with a big hug I also enjoy rustic wedding venues with a lot of nature. Do you have Public Liability insurance? Many wedding venues will insist your photographer has it and National Trust venues require £5million public liability insurance. I personally have the £5million. How far are you prepared to travel? I’m happy to photograph all over the UK and overseas. There’s no extra charge within an hour of Peterborough and there may be a nominal charge if there is additional travel but I keep these costs to a minimum as I enjoy the travel aspect. What’s the scariest thing about being a wedding photographer? This is another question where the answer can reveal a lot about the photographer. Personally my biggest fear is letting you down. This is why I have my guarantee to prove how much I care. What’s your pet hate? I don’t hate anything about weddings. Whether there are grumpy people, controlling people, drunk people, shy people or bonkers people I welcome it all as a fun challenge! But as I said earlier, my ideal clients are full of life, love and laughter, just like me! If this all sounds good I’d love to hear from you and find out more about your wedding.
